Ashley Cole seen filming in Grimsby with the town football team

Chelsea and Arsenal legend Ashley Cole was seen in Grimsby filming with the Ancient Mariners foot football team.

Cole descended on Bradley’s grounds on Monday to see what the team was all about as part of a new access to the sport documentary.

He also took the time to take photos with the fans.

The Ancient Mariners will be part of the documentary by football production company JOE, which films a six-part series to see how football is played across the country by various people and age groups.

The Ancient Mariners were chosen to show how the older generation plays football; to show that the sport can be played by anyone, regardless of age.

Chairman Pete Cribb, 71, said: “It has been a tiring few days spent filming, but I’m glad we decided to do it.

“We spent three hours filming in Blundell Park on Sunday, then we visited Steel’s Corner House for fish and chips.

“On Monday, Ashley and the team took to the field to watch the Ancient Mariners play.

“After several hours of filming on the grounds, they came to my house to film the rest of the footage.

“Ashley Cole is a brilliant guy, nothing has ever been too much for him.

“Everyone was thrilled with how the day turned out and JOE even said it was the best episode they’ve ever shot.

“It was a great opportunity for us and Lincs Inspire and we are all so happy we decided to do it, it was a fabulous experience.”

Roley Thompson, 71, another member of the team said: “This visit will do the club with endless good and prestige.

“It’s absolutely great for the club to get some recognition, but I have to say that neither of us ever thought something like this would ever happen.”

Colin Gray, 67, said: “It’s great for Grimsby and it’s amazing to have someone like Ashley Cole here.”

Steve Palmer, 69, said: “I started playing here when we were only six, to see him thrive so well is amazing.

“We are currently one of the biggest foot football clubs in the country, but experiences like this are always incredible.”
