9 Ploce Gate

From the Old Town of Dubrovnik, the main entrance named the Ploce Gate on the eastern part was built in the 14th century. The gate has a stone bridge and two sections – the inner and outer sections. Before the gate was upgraded, the bridge was made of wood and was locked every night to protect the city from unwanted guests and invaders.

During the second season of Game of thrones, Ploce’s door was used in the scene where Lancel Lannister and Tyrion Lannister were chatting while Bronn waited at a distance. It was also the place that served as the entrance to the Red Keep where Cersei Lannister entered through the door after her walk of shame in Season 5.

8 Gradac Park

Located at the top of Dance Beach is Gradac Park. This place is a short walk from the old town and enjoys tranquil nature and a peaceful ambience. Benches are located all over the park for visitors to pass the time and enjoy nature on top of a cliff with a great view of the beach. In addition, the park has a small pond filled with slow swimming goldfish.

Gradac Park served as the filming ground for the Purple Wedding at Game of thrones Season 4, where the groom King Joffrey was poisoned, which led to the arrest of Tyrion Lannister.

7 Minceta Tower

Marked by the locals as the symbol of the city, the Minceta Tower must be the most remarkable fort in the city of Dubrovnik. The tower is considered the highest point in the city of Dubrovnik and was used to film the scene in season 2 where Daenerys Targaryen was looking for her missing dragons. This tower also served as the Home of the Eternals and was filmed without the use of CGI, making it the best realistic location.

6 Rector’s Palace

Built in the mid-15th century, the Rector’s Palace is one of the most popular palaces in Dubrovnik. This Gothic-style palace has now been turned into a museum where visitors from different countries can immerse themselves in the history and culture of Dubrovnik.

Adding to its popularity is when the palace was used as a backdrop in the scene on Game of thrones where Daenerys Targaryen enlisted the help of the King of Spices of Qarth to lend his ships to his army to navigate through the narrow sea.

5 Saint-Dominique Street

The walled old town of Dubrovnik can best be described as a labyrinth of winding alleys and tightly built stone houses. There were many Game of thrones scenes shot there, most of which were market clips, and it was also where the Golden Capes or the town watch hide. King Robert’s illegitimate sons were also murdered here. This was also the place where Cersei walked naked for the atonement for her sins in Season 5.

4 Jesuit staircase

This is where the scene took place when Cersei Lannister was stripped naked and walked naked in front of the crowd as a woman continually says the words “shame”. It was said to be one of the most expensive scenes in Game of thrones season 5 because all vendors, restaurants and bars were to be paid for a day’s income and wages.

3 Walls of Dubrovnik

The walls of Dubrovnik surround the ancient city and were also used for pivotal scenes in Game of thrones. It was here that the Battle of Blackwater Bay took place, where the fleet of ships led by Stannis Baratheon was shattered by a green wildfire. This was also used in Season 4 when Cersei visited The Mountain and asked him to become his champion for the fight trial requested by Tyrion Lannister.

2 Bokar fortress

This fortress which was built in the 13th century to protect the entrance to the city was featured in Game of thrones season 7 when Cersei tells her brother Jaime that she is considering teaming up with Euron Grayjoy. It was also used in the last season when Daenerys Targaryen decided to burn the city to ashes despite the ringing of bells that signify surrender.

1 Lokrum Island

Lokrum Island is Dubrovnik’s crown jewel and serves as a place of relaxation for locals after a long day. The island appears in Game of thrones when Daenerys Targaryen travels to Quarth to mingle with the elite. During your visit you will be able to experience the Iron Throne which was donated by the producers of GOT in Dubrovnik.
