Varese, Italy — As the 2022 World Rowing Under-23 Championships begin in Italy this week (July 25-30), two members of the University of Michigan rowing team will travel to compete and represent their country in international competition. Young rising Abigail Tooth makes his second U-23 appearance for Team Canada, rowing in the 8+, while moving up as a sophomore Gabrielle Graves is with Team USA as a backup.

The events will take place at Lake Varese, located in the northern part of Italy about 35 miles north of Milan, near the Swiss border. The town sits at the foot of the Campo dei Fiori mountain range overlooking the lake. The lake itself is about five and a half miles long and nearly three miles wide.

The races will start on Monday July 25 with the single sculls and light single sculls and will continue until Friday July 30. Dent and Team Canada 8+ will start racing on Tuesday July 26th. The exact schedule is not yet available.

The WRU23 Championships 2022 Organizing Committee will provide a live streaming service for the event. Stream information will be available on the World Rowing website.

The population of Varese is around 80,000 and is part of Natura 2000, the largest system of protected areas in the European Union, which protects rare or endangered species or habitats. The event takes place in Varese for the first time and takes place in Italy for the first time since 1988.
