REPORTS from Italy link Serie A side Sassuolo with a move for Moi Elyounoussi from the Saints, following his impressive performance at West Ham.
The Norway international spent two seasons on loan at Celtic but managed to carve out a regular place for himself in Ralph Hasenhuttl’s plans this season.
The 27-year-old scored a hat-trick in his first appearance for the Saints in two years in the EFL Cup draw at League Two Newport County, before going on with a Premier League goal at Newcastle.
He has now made 14 league appearances this season, scoring his second goal from a distance with his weak foot in the 3-2 win at London Stadium.
Italian media outlet Tutto Mercato reported that the Italian side had already contacted the Saints to discuss the possibility of a deal.
The report does not say whether the Saints have shown any interest in making a deal.
Hasenhuttl recently said he believes none of his team wants to leave the club this January window and that they will sit down and talk if they do.
However, any player could be persuaded by more suitable conditions from elsewhere.
The Saints are believed to have spent around £ 15million to acquire the attacking midfielder, who has also been used in a central midfield role by Hasenhuttl this season.
It would take a significant offer for the player, whose contract expires in the summer of 2023, for the Saints to recoup what they have paid.
