‘Succession’: Roy family tensions erupt under Italian sunshine in ‘Chiantishire’ (RECAP) | Characteristics

Fresh out of the Kendall (Jeremy Strong) birthday drama, SuccessionThe final episode of “Chiantishire” turns its attention to yet another family reunion, this time overseas in Italy. In preparation for their mother Caroline’s (Harriet Walter) birthday, unresolved tensions between the Roy family are mingled with issues in their personal lives that could have lasting ramifications for the HBO hit.

Before swapping into the corporate landscape for Italian villas, the episode’s action picks up in New York City where Waystar’s board members gather for a reunion. But first, Logan (Brian Cox) takes it upon himself to reveal to Sandi (Hope Davis) and Stewie (Arian Moayed) that the company is considering acquiring Gojo from Lukas Matsson (Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd).

Feeling ambushed, the couple start to panic a bit, and when Sandi asks where Shiv (Sarah Snook) is, it’s clear that she’s looking for the rescue woman who was promised to her at the conclusion of the movie. agreement between their families during the episode 5 shareholders meeting. A call from Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) to Shiv reveals that Roy’s only daughter chose to call sick, still bitter that Roman (Kieran Culkin) had passed as Logan’s favorite business child.

And so the conversations begin in the boardroom with Logan watching from outside and Shiv and Kendall phoning. Soon after, Shiv and Tom join Roman on the jet that will take them overseas, and a conversation about their mother’s future husband is brought up. According to Roman, Peter Munion (Pip Torrens) is a businessman who found his wealth in running retirement homes, an industry Roman sees as a red flag.

Meanwhile, Kendall arrives in Italy separately with her children and nanny. Greeted by Caroline, he learns that she wants him to limit his exposure to certain weekend events as they attempt to avoid drama with Logan. When Kendall remarks that her role at the wedding should trump that of Logan given that he is her son, Caroline mentions that the request is on behalf of her future husband which is all about who is who at his wedding. .

Next to arrive are Tom and Shiv as well as Gerri (J. Smith-Cameron) who brings her stepfather, Laurie. Willa (Justine Lupe) is elated to be in Italy as she asks Connor (Alan Ruck) silly questions about whether he has ever met a Pope before, but he is distracted by a question Politics sends his way on Willa’s background.

Roman can’t wait to reunite with Gerri as the guests begin to settle in, but he’s surprised to see Laurie in her room. She then makes a specific request that Roman stop sending her cock pics, which he’s apparently been doing for some time.

Looking for an outlet to free up his energy on, Roman decides to discuss Peter’s background in nursing homes with his mother, but Caroline easily admits that her future husband is no good. Despite Roman’s supposed worries, Caroline argues that she can’t survive on Logan’s remains forever, hence the motivation behind her nuptials.

Kendall always does business when it comes to her public image, asking Comfry (Dasha Nekrasova) if there are any requests for interviews or other opportunities. She mentions that there are questions regarding the alleged suicide of a caterer at her sister’s wedding, which viewers know was not a suicide, but an accident in which Kendall had been involved. He asks Comfry to keep an eye on the situation while he waits.

After leaving Kendall, Comfry searches for Greg (Nicholas Braun) and even gives him a little kiss before rushing off to make more phone calls. Tom and Shiv notice her progress, but after having the courage to ask Comfry out, Greg can’t help but wonder if there is depth in her? In the meantime, he is encouraged to flirt with one of the seemingly single wedding guests, but is quickly overwhelmed by Roman who grabs the possible prospect for himself.

Relative calm is disturbed for the Roys when a social media post from Lukas reads, “Go to Macau, feel lucky”, suggesting action is being taken with GoJo. When Roman tries to call the businessman, he can’t seem to get his attention.

And all hell continues to break loose when Connor appears to propose to Willa who is not captivated to say yes, but smiles and nods for appearances, telling Connor that she will need some time to decide. Logan turns heads when he arrives with Marcia (Hiam Abbass) and Kerry (Zoe Winters) on either side of him as he strikes up a conversation with Peter.

It appears Peter is seeking political connections, but Kendall is making waves by approaching his estranged father to be blocked by Roman. Kendall asks her father to join him for dinner to clear things up and put them to rest once and for all, hinting at a pivotal dinner ahead.

Most of the guests head into town as the night continues where the women gather for Caroline’s bachelorette party celebration and Peter heads into town with the guys. Shiv has a private conversation with his mother about the impending marriage, and Caroline comments on how Shiv made the right choice not to have children, which strikes Shiv in a negative light.

Gerri manages to catch up with Roman and warns him that Logan is unhappy with Matsson’s actions on social media and suggests he try to fix it for the good of the business. Roman thinks she’s freaking out and making jokes about teaming up with Laurie behind her back, but ultimately takes her words into consideration.

Back at the residence, Kendall greets Logan for dinner and is horrified when his father uses his own child as a taste tester, suggesting that Kendall would try to poison his own father. After the couple have spent some time alone, Kendall is at Logan’s level and says he wants to leave the company, he will take the settlement that Roman presented on his birthday with a big asset, but Logan goes back on the initial offer.

Angry, Kendall accuses Logan of being evil but is punished when his father brings up the car accident that caused a man’s death in part because of Kendall. Logan tells his son he’s always tried to clean up his mess and rhetorically asks, “Am I a bad person?” The two separate as Logan leaves dinner, with no real progress in their long-standing grudge.

When Shiv returns for the evening to her bedroom, she tells Tom about her determination to take over the business, outdo Roman and have a baby. The exchange quickly becomes awkward as they engage in various forms of “bad talk,” including that Shiv doesn’t like Tom. Connor has his own challenges as he searches for Willa for an update with no chance of getting his proposal answered.

Greg tries to flirt with the girl he was watching earlier in the episode, only to be beaten by Roman again. By daylight, Tom doesn’t feel good about his private moment with Shiv the night before and tries to figure out what she meant by making the comment of not liking him. She tries to push him aside, claiming it’s her way of speaking, but Shiv doesn’t really convince anyone. When inquiring about her baby’s planning, she brings up IVF as an option, saying it would give them time to think about their family planning.

The Roman jet travels to Macau to get in touch with Matsson who is open to a deal despite his worrying tweets he just wants an equal role in the business. The question is, is Waystar ready to pay? The advantage is the relevance to their conglomerate which is lagging behind in terms of ever growing markets, but then there is the power.

Shiv, Tom and Logan all show up at one of Waystar’s overseas offices to catch up with Roman who tells Gerri that Matsson is probably considering his tie concession, but she’s not so sure because she’s letting it down. ‘encourages sharing the news with her family. When Logan agrees to close the deal, Gerri congratulates Roman and in response takes a cock pic asking him to have dinner to celebrate. The trap ? Roman sent it to the wrong phone as Logan is surprised by the image that now occupies his screen.

Angry, Logan leaves the room and Shiv follows him only to learn that Roman just sent their father a picture of his genitals. Shiv uses this to his advantage, suggesting that Roman is a risk to the business with this kind of behavior. Logan screams for his son and asks if he’s sick. Roman tries to tell Logan it’s okay when it sure is.

Logan begins to wonder if he will have to fire Gerri, but Roman sends him off that ledge, as Shiv asks Gerri for the photos. Gerri will not reveal if she has already received the photos of Roman, making it clear that she is not about to sell the Roy problem to Shiv’s benefit.

Back at the Italian estate, Kendall’s children sit by the pool as he floats in the center of the water. Clearly in a depressed state, they apologize for the awkward silence and the episode ends with Kendall slowly tilting her nose and mouth in the water, hinting at a possible suicide attempt. Will Kendall’s metaphorical blood be on Logan’s hands? We hope not, but oh boy, would that create even juicier drama because Succession is heading towards its Season 3 finale.
