I’m a travel writer and have been covering the industry for years. I am convinced that this summer will be huge for travel.
As we head into Memorial Day, I thoughtlessly block dates on my calendar for summer travel. Finally, so many options look more feasible than they have at any time during the past two years of heavy travel restrictions.
And I am far from alone. According to recent Google search and flight data for 2022 so far, travelers across the United States are feeling the same pent-up demand and are ready to hit the road — and the sky — this summer.
Research conducted between January and mid-April 2022 showed that travelers are willing to make up for lost time and do anything to travel. Search interest for “luxury hotels“raised above 2019 levels, and research”luxury hotels nearbywas more than double what Google data showed in early 2019, before the pandemic.
Still, travelers continue to embrace nature and the great outdoors, with Yellowstone National Park being of great interest, as well as Disney World, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
Similarly, for summer travel dates between June and August 2022, Orlando was the most searched destination. Other cities like Las Vegas, my perennial favorite, and New York also made the top five.
But unlike last summer, when numerous border restrictions created barriers, this year international travel is now an option. The same Google data also showed that two international destinations made the list of the most searched travel destinations this summer, with Cancun at No. 2 and London at No. 4. four months of 2022, according to the Data.
Inspired by these trends, as well as the events scheduled to come this summer, I’ve compiled a list of the best domestic and international destinations to consider for summer 2022 travel.
